9.Colca Canyon

One of the wonders of Latin America. Chiseled in the heart of the mountains, 180 km north of Arequipa, Colca is the second deepest canyon in the world (3400 m), after that of Cotahuasi (3,535 m) located nearby.

Twice as high as the Canyon of Colorado, the elevation reaches 3,200 m, it still looks more like a valley than a gorge.

Over a hundred kilometers, occupying several villages flanks, and its agricultural terraces, carved into the mountain emerge harmoniously. We find these andenes even in the wildest and most rugged sites. These human accomplishments are breathtaking, they date from the civilization of Colluhuas Indians, who occupied the place 1000 years before the Incas.
