The monumental ruins of a lost civilization, which the jungle adds its mystery and its disturbing rumor, are impressive. The chatter of tropical birds, the cries of howler monkeys and unknown scents of Tikal quickly put you in the mood.

Tikal is protected by two earthen fortifications running from east to west between two marshes. The archaeological and cultural center containing Maya temples and pyramids, most of which were built between the third and ninth century BC. These buildings fulfilled a public service, ceremonial, governmental and residential.

The surrounding rainforest and its 59,489 hectares are home to a jungle in which grow some of the most beautiful trees in the world, such as the ceiba (kapok), national and sacred tree.
